How to Find Police Auctions

I have been going to police auctions since I was a kid. I remember my first, I was 8 years old and I went with my dad. He let me bid on (and buy) a nearly-new bicycle for 8 bucks. I already had a bike, but when you see that good of a deal, its hard to pass up.

At police auctions, they auction off the things they seize when apprehending criminals. Many times the rightful owners of property cannot be determined, and so the items are auctioned. Automobiles are typically the most popular items at auctions, as one can sometimes be bought for 75% off of the blue book value. I have bought all kinds of items, including cars, and have got quite a few great deals.

It's not always easy to find police auctions. They are typically advertised very cheaply in the classified ads section of newspapers, and very few people know when and where they take place. This is good for you, as that means less competition at the auction.

To find them, you can call your local police stations. Do not call 911, instead, look in the front of your phone book, or in the "blue pages" for the number of the precinct. Also try to call the police stations at surrounding counties and cities. They will usually tell you the dates and places of the auctions coming up, and some even have a mailing list you can get on for future auctions.

Some of the more modern police precincts have began posting their auction information on the web. I have not found a lot doing this yet, but it is sometimes possible, at least for major metropolitan areas. Just search Google for your local police station website.

If you really want to become a police auction bargain-hunter, you will probably want to use a paid service to help find them near you. The advantage of a paid service is that you can view all of the near you, and they can give you an idea of what you will find for sale at the auction. This can save hours of searching and calling, and will help ensure you don't miss any great auctions.

If you would like more info about a great paid service that helps find government and police auctions, I recommend Government Auctions and foreclosures. This is the most well respected and best value of government auctions services.
